I will be designing a cover for a book about legendary blues artist Robert Johnson. He was an itinerant blues singer and guitarist who lived from 1911 to 1938.
Urban legend states that Johnson sold his soul to the devil to gain his extraordinary guitar skills. I will be incorporating some elements from this legend into my cover.
Color - Sepia, black, grey maybe a dash of red
Layout- Focal point will be title of the book with an old fashioned typeface reminiscent of the era. The entire cover will look like it was printed during Johnson's time-frame (Great Depression Era in the deep South). Any visual elements used will look old fashioned. There will be a picture of Johnson on the front and/or back possibly an image of the devil.
Message- I want to portray the difficulty of Johnson's life, the depth of his music and the plight of African Americans in the depression era south.
